agnès b.

agnès b. is a privately owned, family-operated French company, founded in 1975 that today includes stores worldwide, contemporary art galleries, and the hybrid art periodical « Point d’Ironie ». From the very outset, in her first boutique on rue du Jour in Paris, agnès b. made T-shirts that reproduced drawings or slogans. In those days, they were all different silkscreen prints produced in-situ with variations in color and size of the print. But it was a proposition by Félix González-Torres that kicked off the movement in 1994 – a simple phrase “nobody owns me” on the back of a T-shirt. Printed in a limited-edition of 100, this T-shirt has now become a collector’s item. Since the creation of this line, more than 60 artists, including Kenneth
Anger, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Frédéric Bruly-Brouabré, Gilbert & George, John Giorno, Douglas Gordon, Dennis Hopper, Jonone, Seydou Keïta, Harmony Korine, David Lynch, Jim Shaw… just to name a few… have accepted agnès’s invitation to design T-shirts. agnès b. also offers this opportunity to young artists, to use a platform to showcase their work. Graffiti has occupied a special place in this garment line for
some time now. agnès b. has been following the graffiti movement since its early beginnings in New York. Ever since she opened her contemporary art gallery in 1984 in Paris, she has been regularly organising exhibition/performances, like the ones by the Ripoulin brothers in 1984 and Futura 2000 in 1989, right through to the September get-together in 2001 featuring 17 graffiti artists from a variety of different backgrounds. As a collector, she also concentrates on graff artists.

Since then, graffiti has featured prominently in the images she uses for her collections, and to date Futura, Jonone, Jayone, Aone, Skki, Ash, Moze, Lee, Dash, O’Clock and Psychoz have all contributed designs for T-shirts, hats, ties, skirts and bags. With this graff artist series, agnès b. only confirms her support for a movement whose richness and pertinence (impertinence!) she defends to the hilt, without glossing over its critical and polemical aspect.
« What I really believe, and I never tire of repeating it, is that graffiti is not a form of pollution. On the contrary, it’s a very rich art. Something that embellishes life, and embellishes the city environment. »

d r ô n e

The origin of d r ô n e: Dr.one, the eponymous creator of the brand.

d r ô n e is both a group and the accomplished work. This work highlights the questions that Dr.one asks about the future, his fears of the future, and his questions daily questions regarding the world. d r ô n e is a project that exists today as a clothing brand.

d r ô n e will move and possibly expand. Fashion and Urban Fashion are one and the same thing. The fabric is there to help every individual in his daily tasks; protecting him, reheating him, optimizing him. As a need to exist, to claim and to be, fashion has the same role as street art, hip-hop, literature, painting: the movement.

KIT WAN

Kit Wan is an Oslo-based fashion/multimedia designer from Hong Kong. His distinctive, vivid visual language and vision are set through conflation of different collective bodies (e.g. technology, psychology, cultural sociology and cognition etc.). The maximalistic design silhouette & details, vibrant use of color & fabrication, and experimental choices of materials contribute to the otherworldly realm for men in the modern days.

I have my genesis in the vision for an unseen, raw and galvanizing dimension for men, which ramifies into novelty and sensation. In my eyes, clothing’s nature is a two-way mirror that has the wearers project themselves into the realm that allures and connects them, yet bares their fragility to the outside world.  It is the sense of belonging and the exchange of values that drives my work forward.
